The Sixth International Fencing Tournament in memory of the S. Y. Kolchinsky took place
The Sixth International Epee Fencing Tournament among cadets, dedicated to the memory of the Honoured Coach of the USSR and UkraineSemen Yakovych Kolchinsky, took place in Kyiv on November 9-10, 2006.
More than 140 boys and girls from Ukraine, Russia and Moldova, not older than born in 1992, participated in the contest. The role of organizers was assumed by the Fencing Federation of Ukraine, Seniour Department of Physical Training and Sports Complex of Kyiv City Administration, Republican Higher College of Physical Training, Kyiv Central Council "Dynamo".
As is known, Semen Yakovych Kolchinsky was the founder of Ukrainian professional fencing school. The prominent sportsman and later the genius pedagogue, outstanding teacher and understanding tutor he devoted to his favourite work more than 50 years. His glorious "Dynamo" school gained the glory for itself and Ukraine, not only inside the former USSR, but in the whole world. The students repeatedly glorified their teacher Hryhoriy Kriss, Champion and Prize-Winner of Olympic Games and World Championships, Viktor Putyatin, Yosyf Vitebsky, Georgiy Pogosov, Vadym Gutzeit, Sergiy Holubytsky and Sergiy Kravchuk, Champions of the World and Prize-Winners of Olympic Games, European and World Championships, Viktor Bykov, Eduard Zhludko and Ignatenko, Champions of the USSR and Ukraine, Mykola Shinkarenko, the best coach of the USSR National Team and many others.
Continuing the traditions commenced by the great fencing master, young and talented, full of strength and faith in victory, Ukrainian fencers crossed the swords in the memory of Semen Kolchinsky. The contest resulted with the prize-winners among boy cadets: - 1st place Maksym Shevchenko /Lviv/
- 2nd place Vsevolod Dyachenko /Bila Tserkva/
- 3rd place Andriy Nazarkevych /Lviv/
- 3rd place Oleksiy Symonenko /Kyiv/
Among girls-cadets accordingly: - 1st place Anfisa Pochkalova /Lviv/
- 2nd place Kateryna Petrova /Kyiv/
- 3rd place Yulia Sokolova /Kyiv/
- 3rd place Alina Kramarenko /Mykolayiv/
Nowadays, the tournament, which is held six years in a row, has become the stage in the system of selection to the Ukraine National Team among the cadets. This is the victory. But to participants' and organizers' belief this is one of the first victories on the long way of Semen Kolchinsky followers.
